Uber hires PR company Sling and Stone to manage public affairs

Rideshare company Uber has hired public relations firm Sling and Stone to manage its public affairs.

The company has joined with Uber New Zealand, which provides taxi rides, food deliveries, and e-scooter services.

Uber recently came under fire from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern because of its high commission rates.

Ardern encouraged New Zealanders to order takeaways directly from businesses rather than through the Uber Eats app.

Uber resumed the food delivery service when New Zealand moved to coronavirus alert level three on Tuesday, but drivers said on Friday they had been struggling following Ardern’s advice.

Before that they had barely noticed a difference in business from alert level four, which was lifted at 11.59pm on Monday.
